What is the format of the dissertations in British University in Dubai?
Writing academic chapters is not all that is involved in completing a Master's dissertation. The students at the British University in Dubai (BUiD) should also make sure that their final paper is in the correct format and adheres to the BUiD submission guidelines.
The one problem that is often neglected is dissertation presentation. A well researched dissertation can face issues with submission if it is not properly structured and formatted for a document.
The official BUiD Library formatting guidance says that students should opt for the university's dissertation template, instead of general dissertation templates.
The student should also employ uniform headings, paging and auto-generated tables of contents.
Important: Please be aware of the latest programme-specific instructions and official dissertation template before finalising your document.
Are dissertations for Master's degree required to be in APA 7 formatting in BUiD?
Another factor to consider is referencing. BUiD Library will offer guidance on APA 7 referencing for most of the programmes and Law students may use OSCOLA.
Students are encouraged to focus on:
Correct in-text citations.
Complete reference-list entries.
Consistent author-date formatting.
Accurate DOI and URL information.
Proper citations of academic journals, books and online sources.
Inconsistencies in academic writing can result from the use of multiple referencing styles.
Is an abstract needed for BUiD dissertation in Arabic and English?
Yes. The abstracts, in English (and in Arabic), are among the preliminary dissertation pages according to the BUiD Library formatting checklist.
Students should also examine any preliminary pages, such as the title page, declaration, copyright, abstract, acknowledgements and table of contents that may or may not be required.
Why don't BUiD students hand in their finished dissertations?
Final thesis and dissertation submissions are made to the university's institutional repository (BSpace).
Students are required to submit their dissertation before it has been approved and graded by their supervisor and it is necessary that it contains required corrections and conforms to the guidelines of the university.
In addition, the library verifies the format of the documents prior to providing clearance.
